I have posted some simple and quick ways to "save a dime."

For example:

1. Scan your cupboards, pantry, and fridge before leaving for the grocery store. 

2. Keep a running list of items you are running low on or that you need on the fridge.

3. Keep an eye on the weekly store circular.

All Girls Love Shoes

Sunday was a great shoe day for me- and I didn't even buy any shoes... yet.

Famous Footwear had an ad in Sunday's paper this week.

They are having a 40-50% women's spring dress shoes which includes flipflops, wedges, heels, etc. 

Plus, on the back of the ad, there's a coupon for an additional 15% off your entire purchase!

Valid through 4/23/2011

When I went grocery shopping at Tom Thumb, the register printed out a coupon for 20% off any purchase at Payless Shoesource.

Valid through 5/8/2011

Finally, for having a rewards card at DSW, I got a rewards certificate for $20 off my next purchase through September 25, 2011.

The rewards card is free to have and you get some awesome benefits. It's basically just a way for them DSW to track your purchases and send you specials for being a customer.

You earn 10 points per dollar on regularly priced items and 5 points per dollar on clearance items. Every 1500 points, you get a $10 rewards certificate. 

I guess it's time to go shoe shopping!!

Springtime = Allergies

Spring is such a beautiful time of year... 

until the allergies come.

Zyrtec had a special coupon this week for $7 off one bottle. Catch is: it expires in only 1 week, April 24. 

CVS and Walgreens have it on sale for (25 liquid gels or 30 tablets) $18.99

Combine the coupon and your looking at a final price of: $11.99.

Fresh Produce

It's a common misconception that buying fresh produce is extremely expensive.

It is very important that you know what is in season, good prices for produce, and that you only buy what you need.

Today I bought:

2 bananas for $0.50

1 bag of spinach for $1

1lb of strawberries for $1.77

1 avocado for $1.99

 

I had a coupon for $1 off any $5 produce purchase (discount is taken at full price).

I paid $4.26 for this fresh produce. Full price it would have cost $9.97. 

That's 57% savings.

Proof- it is possible to save money even on fresh produce.

Target beats Walmart's prices!

A recent price comparison of grocery and household goods showed that Wal-mart does not have the lowest prices. Target's prices are now lower than Wal-marts on many products. 

Wal-mart typically has a 2-4% price advantage over Target. 

Target only has a slight edge over Wal-mart right now, but when you add the Redcard discount of 5%, the price gap widens to 5.7%

 

Among the goods compared, the types of products that helped Target beat Wal-mart were: health and beauty items, and smoking cessation gum.  Wal-mart still had better prices on items such as lightbulbs, trash bags, and detergent.

It's the Same Thing!

I was talking to my dad on the phone the other day and I asked him if he had read the blog lately.

You would think his answer would be, "yes, of course, I read it every day!!"... but that's besides the point.

I talked to him about what he thought about "Lauren's Fabulous Finds."

He said it was great, but he wished he had a Tom Thumb near him so that he could take advantage of the great deals.

I responded, "Dad, you do! It's called Pavilions!"

Safeway owns a whole chain of grocery stores found in most of the United States, although it goes by many different names:

I just got back from a successful trip at Tom Thumb. Here's what I found:

All sales are through April 12th.

There is a Super Saver Coupon for Fiber One Granola Bars for $1.99 each (limit 4). 

I had a few coupons to use on these for $0.40 off each box.

Tom Thumb's coupon policy limits the doubling of coupons to the 1st coupon of each item, so only 1 coupon was doubled.

I got 3 boxes (Regularly $11.37) for $4.37. That's a savings of 62%!!

Kettle Potato Chips are on sale Buy One Get One Free.

There was recently a coupon for $1 off 1 bag. 

I got 2 bags (Regularly $7.58) for $2.79. That's a savings of 63%!!

Welch's new refrigerated Juice Cocktails were on sale for $1.99. 

I had 2 coupons for $1 off 1 carton.

I got 2 cartons (Regularly $5.18) for $1.98. That's a savings of 62%!!

Again, there is a Super Saver Coupon for Freschetta Pizza for $3.99 each.

You can go to Freschetta's website to print out a coupon and there was also a coupon for $1 off 1 box in today's newspaper. 

I got 1 pizza (Regularly $6.49) for $2.99. That's a savings of 54%!!

A 3lb. bag of Clementine oranges are on sale for $2.99. Recently, there was a coupon for $0.55 off 1 bag. Not only that, I got a coupon from Tom Thumb in one of their coupon books around the store for $1 off any $5 produce purchase.

I got 1 bag (Regularly $6.99) for $1.49. That's a savings of 79%!! 

My new goal is to branch out and find other great deals at other stores. Today I found a great deal at Walgreens.

This sale ends Saturday, April 16th.

 

All brand laundry detergent is buy one ($6.99) get one free. In today's newspaper there was a coupon for $1 off 1 All detergent bottle. That's 2 detergent bottles for $5.99, a savings of 57%!!

I spend just a few minutes this morning looking through the weekly ads and matching what's on sale with the coupon inserts from today and past inserts and I paid an average of half price for everything!

Tom Thumb has a new circular in this week's Sunday paper.

Some great deals I found are:

Kraft Cheese Singles Super Saver Coupon $2.49 (Regularly $3.99)

Coupons.com has a printable coupon for $0.75 off 2% milk Kraft Singles.

That makes it $1.74, a savings of 57%!!

Crest or Colgate Toothpaste Super Saver Coupon $1.99 (Regularly $2.99)

There was a coupon in last weekend's circular for $1.50 off any Colgate Total advanced toothpaste.

That makes Colgate Toothpaste $0.40, a savings of 87%!!

DIY Microwave Popcorn

We love snacking on popcorn almost every night.

The packaged stuff at the grocery store can get expensive, especially if you buy name-brand popcorn.

This website has a super simple and inexpensive way to make your own popcorn, and its healthy! All you need is popcorn kernels, paper lunch bags, and tape.

Here is how you do it:

1. Put 1/4 cup popcorn in a brown paper bag. Fold top over a few times and tape it.
2. Place in microwave folded side up for 2 to 3 minutes or until there is 5 seconds between pops.
3. Eat plain or add flavors (such as salt, butter, sugar, etc.)
